a5c7b9f00b A misfit bunch of friends come together to right the injustices which exist in a small town. In 1880, four men travel together to the city of Silverado. They come across many dangers before they finally engage the &quot;bad guys&quot; and bring peace and equality back to the city. This was one of the best westerns of the 80s and also a good movie that many people could enjoy. The story is solid with many subplots that keep you paying attention. At the same time the movie does a good job of sprinkling action scenes throughout the movie. The only negative of this movie is probably that it tried to do to much there were enough scenes to fill a miniseries but at least they were good.<br/><br/>The cinemetograpy is great showing some brilliant landscapes from open desserts, dry highlands and snow covered mountains.<br/><br/>The actors were brilliant all the way around. The main characters Scott Glenn, Kevin Kline, Kevin Costner and Danny Glover. But the Producers and directors did not stop there they hired good actors for the smaller scenes also like Brian Dennehythe corrupt sheriff, John Cleeseanother sheriff, Rosanna Arquettea newly widowed homesteader, they even gave small parts to Jeff Goldblum, Jeff Fahey and Linda Hunt.<br/><br/>This movies action scenes include jail breaks, bar fights, fist fights and of course the showdown.<br/><br/>This movie stands the test of time and is good enough to watch over and over again. When I first saw this movie, I was reminded of &#39;Rustler&#39;s Rhapsody&#39; and &#39;Young Guns&#39;. It tells the story of the west, in a comical way at times. Not totally unlike &#39;Young Guns&#39;, there are moments of humor in the filmKevin Costner&#39;s character gets in trouble and weasels out of it, justBilly does in Young Guns. He is aided by his brother EmmettBilly was by the Regulators (Billy&#39;s family). <br/><br/>Linda Hunt, though short, reminds me of Marilou Henner&#39;s character in &#39;Rhapsody&#39;, to some extent. And who&#39;s to say that short people didn&#39;t live in the west of the 1800&#39;s and have jobs like running saloons, anyway? Hunt and Kline have a thing going in the film, if only in her mind, justHenner and Barringer did. Kevin Kline is like the sidekick in &#39;Rhapsody&#39; (played by G.W. Bailey), with the exception of being just a bit more on the ball - but standing in the street with a broken pistol while trying to load it with shots hitting all around (and one shot too close for comfort) is certainly reminiscent of Bailey&#39;s character. <br/><br/>I feel that the actors did justice to the film, justmuchthe Sheen boys did for Young Guns. For some of them it was a short reach across the diversity of acting, for others it was a long stretch, but they all did an adequate job in showing versatility in their careers. And this is one of the rare films that you can see Earl Hindman in full face (Tim &#39;The Tool Man&#39; Taylor&#39;s neighbor, Wilson).<br/><br/>Plot wise, It would be a very boring film to see these two brothers connect with each other and just ride off into the sunset with no girls, no gunfights, no nothing in between. Revenge and settling old debts are the premises of this film. I think that Silverado has become an almost cult classic because of those who like it, buy it, and watch it again and again. It didn&#39;t do well in the theaters, but it certainly is still selling videos and DVD&#39;s even today. I recommend that anyone even thinking about Western movies for the evening, should at least give Silverado a try.<br/><br/>All in all, I feel that Silverado rates just a bit under the best of the best at a 7.5 of 10. In all honesty, Tombstone is my favorite (recent) western. But even it has things in it that are not historically correct, just like Young Guns. However, if some things were not changed, the movies of the Old West would merely be documentaries, and would only be seen on the History Channel, not in theaters. Silverado is a completely successful physical attempt at reviving the western, but its script would need a complete rewrite for it to become more than just a small step in a full-scale western revival.
